REAPER is a powerful Windows application for multitrack recording and editing of audio.

I’ve been a freelance musician for some time now. I’ve used Cool Edit Pro (which later became Audition), Sonar, Vegas, Cubase, ACiD and Samplitude. I’ve never touched ProTools except for seeing it being worked on when I was in studio. However, none of the programs I’ve used can even compare to the wonder of Reaper.

I’m serious here. If you’re a freelance musician with a very low budget, this program is perfect for you. Heck, even if you have a heafty budget, get Reaper and use the rest of your budget on mics and other gear because Reaper - no lie - can do pretty much everything the big dawgs can and then some.

The pricing is basically free. They offer the program without any technical limitations or time trials. If you want to continue using it, they offer two licenses. Non-commercial for $50 (if you’re just indie and not making gobs of cash off the recorded product) or Commercial for $225 (if you’re going mainstream and making the big bucks). Either license is very reasonable. Especially since their competition runs about 3x the price without the frills.

What does Reaper support? What DOESN’T it?! VST, VSTi, DX, DXi, ReaPLUGS, MIDI - if the big dawgs support it than Reaper probably does, or will.

Do yourself a favor, check it out.
