on Jan 7th, 2008Holidays are (finally) over

I love Christmas and New Years as much as the next joe, but man - I am glad it’s over. My wife and I took the weekend off, and just relaxed - not really caring about how messy the house was, or how we probably should clean the bathroom or organize my office. It was just a time to relax. We have been reading a book by author Frank E. Peretti (This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness, The Oath) called ‘Monster‘ and it honestly is a good book. Not the best there ever was, but good all around. I’ve give you a synopsis, but I fear it would give away too much. SO - I’ll copy/paste what was written from Mr. Peretti’s website:

Miles away from the hectic city, Reed and Rebecca hike into the beautiful Northwestern woods. They’re surrounded by gorgeous mountains, waterfalls, and hundreds of acres of unspoiled wilderness.

But something-or someone-begins closing in on them. Something no human has ever seen. And it’s killing everyone in its path without remorse.

On another ‘novel’ note, I read that New Line Cinema and MGM finally agreed to do the movie adaption of ‘The Hobbit‘ with Peter Jackson once again taking the helm. It will be in two films (which hopefully will keep a majority of the story intact) and will probably be released 2010 and 2011. Which means we have to wait for-freakin-ever to see the movie, I’m sure it will be good. Jackson, I think, did a good job with ‘Lord of the Rings’ even though he had to leave some key elements: well, key to those who’ve read and loved the original story. From a movie-goer perspective, it was wonderful.

I just hope that Ian Holm isn’t cast for Bilbo Baggins. I love the actor, don’t get me wrong, but he’ll be in his 70s by the time the movie gets recorded. Bilbo is only suppose to be 30ish when he goes on his ‘grand adventure’.

Re: Hobbit– yay!! Yes, I agree with everything you wrote on this topic.

Re: Monster. I have that one in paperback. I enjoyed it quite a bit, though not as much as This Present Darkness or The Oath, which is my personal favorite.

I’m glad the holidays are over too. So is the baby.

Yeah, I’m feeling the same way on ‘Monster’. Good book, has kept me interested. NEARLY done … I’m glad it didn’t go the way I was assuming … but we’ll see. I’ve got a few chapters before I can say for sure :)
