In-laws, particularly the mother-in-law, seems to strike fear in the hearts of any spouse. It’s the idea that you marry the one you love and in return you the crazy family stalking your every move.
Let’s look at the media in-laws.
Everybody Loves Raymond
This is probably one of the most popular ‘in-law’ idea out there. Look at Raymond’s mother. She’s controlling, manipulative and bossy. She’s the embodiment of the devil if he was that bad. Ray’s father isn’t exactly a walk in the park either. Rude and cynical are gross understatements. This is what many people see in-laws as.
I had other examples in my mind before they went bye-bye. However, you get the point. The media promotes the stigma. It’s not about to lift up anything within the family -especially extended family.
The reason I’m bringing this up is my mother-in-law came to town this weekend. I immediately can sense many people cringing and expecting a story about ‘the evil in-law’ and such, but to be honest - I enjoy my in-laws. My wife’s family is great. Her mother, father, brothers and sisters … love them all. In fact, her sisters and brothers are some of my best friends. Her youngest sister doesn’t really remember a time when I wasn’t around. I think she was three or four when Carolyn and I started to date … now, 15 years later … well, you get the point.
I’m pretty sure Carolyn loves my family as well, though she didn’t have the opportunity to become best friends with my sisters. I think they’re on pretty good terms though.
I wonder, am I one of the only people who feel as comfortable with my in-laws as I am with my parents and siblings? Anyone else out there perfectly fine with their in-laws or am I just … weird!?

well my in-laws, mother in-law is ok,we will talk for hours.BUT my wife father, he is one of those guys that dont like comp.[i dont think he know how to use one]. he dislike me because i like games and i play games.here is his words to my wife,”WHY DO YOU LIKE HIM?”
thank the lord my wife said, “Because he is cool, funny and make me feel good”.that made me happy!!

MY father-in-law is an x-pastor hippie guy .. really awesome - and weird as heck - guy. We get along extremely well.
